Jeronimo K. (35)
- Institution of Study:NUST
- Course of study: Journalism and Media Technology
- Year Started: 2021
- Year Ended: 2023
- Which final degree do you intend to achieve?Ph D
- How was the past year, what were
your challenges, what went well?
The past year was quite challenging in completing my first
academic year.
Besides the fact thatvCOVID-19 hit me two times and that
we had blended mode of studies, some of the challenges of
the past are same as of today. That includes taxi money,
note books, food and accommodation.
My only uncle who was a breadwinner passed on due to COVID-19. That caused frustrations to my studies and mental health. My father passed and my mother is not working. - What is your target in your professional life? To be a reliable employer who intends to create selfsustainable job opportunities to our unemployed graduates.
- How do you wish your life should be in 10 years? In the next ten years, I want to be a proactive community entrepreneur who is very serious in terms of developing our community in the area of agriculture, health, education and environment. Currently I am a part time student. This means I attend lectures in the evening. In the morning, I run my own organisations that are legally registered. The first is: Oupale-Okalongo Development Trust a non profit organisation that is registered with the Master of High Court in Namibia. It's registration is T402/12 and it's website is www.oupale.org.na. As a community, we managed to create a kindergarten in our marginalized community. Now the traditional authority had allocated to us more than seven hectares of land where we want to fence it off, excavate the earth dam to harvest rain water and then to utilise water in the small scale irrigation project. We equally want to utilise the land to have a Guesthouse, community and community information sharing center to empower our people, to know their rights etc. The next ten years we want to see Oupale-Okalongo Development Trust having a scholarships so as to fund young talented minds of our community. The problem for now is only financial challenges else we have written a project proposal entailing all details.

- How was the past year, what were your challenges, what went well? During my first year of studies in 2020 I was stranded, I had no one to pay for my studies since I missed the deadline to apply for government's study loan. Luckily, a friend told about Thusanang Foundation, that's when I got support from the organization. Before I got assistance from Thusanang, I was accommodate in a shack in an informal settlement called "Okahandja Park"; where there was no electricity and no portable water supply. The challenge was not having a proper study environment, but once I received assistance from Thusanang I managed to live a suitable place for a student. Last year was fair, Thusanang cleared my 2020 tuition fees in February and paid for my first semester accommodation, and I managed to get a government loan which covered my tuitions fees for the academic year. The challenge can when Thusanang stopped funding me last year in May, and the government loan didn't keep up with time, since I got my last year fees settled this year, and luckily I lived with a friend who took me under his wings.
